Choose DWG for an AutoCAD-based workflow
DWG is generally the practical choice when the file will be edited, referenced and issued from AutoCAD or compatible building-design software.
Choose DXF for exchange or fabrication
DXF is useful when geometry must move between different CAD, CAM, cutting or manufacturing applications. Always confirm the supported DXF version with the receiving party.
The source quality still matters
Choosing DWG instead of DXF does not create missing detail. A clean vector PDF usually converts better than a scan. Scanned plans may need manual redrawing regardless of the requested output format.
